FutureB-
The Commanders got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Commanders did exactly that with Princewill Umanmielen in the 197th overall pick. A D- that will need time and luck to look better.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Landing Golday that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In the 7th pick they get a three-down runner. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles at the 43rd overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick75
Rnd3
Connor Lew
Connor Lew at pick 75 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick87
Rnd3
Joe Royer
Joe Royer in No. 87 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick95
Rnd3
D'Angelo Ponds
A conviction pick on D'Angelo Ponds at the Round 3 slot that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick112
Rnd4
Jake Golday
They robbed the room for Jake Golday here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick131
Rnd4
Kage Casey
They went early on Kage Casey in the Round 4 slot, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick146
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
They paid a round early for Davison Igbinosun in slot 146, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick150
Rnd5
Drew Allar
Drew Allar in the 150th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick178
Rnd5
Bud Clark
Bud Clark in pick No. 178 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick186
Rnd6
Dane Key
A straight-up fair deal on Dane Key at Round 6, Pick 6, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick197
Rnd6
Princewill Umanmielen
Princewill Umanmielen at pick 197 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick223
Rnd7
Da'Shawn Womack
Da'Shawn Womack in the 223rd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
