Draft Grade — Chiefs

FutureA+
The Chiefs stacked value on need and came away with a A-. The Chiefs clearly saw something nobody else did in Kamran James, taking him 59 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
A whole weekend of picks and offensive lineman is somehow still a want. That Love pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Bottom line, with Jeremiyah Love leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In pick 18 they get a three-down runner, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
Pick40
Rnd2
Dontay Corleone
Dontay Corleone slipping to slot 40 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick74
Rnd3
Eli Stowers
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Eli Stowers in No. 74. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick112
Rnd4
Joe Royer
The board had Joe Royer higher than Round 4, Pick 12, and the tight end fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick146
Rnd5
Kevin Coleman Jr.
No edge and no loss on Kevin Coleman Jr. in pick No. 146; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick176
Rnd5
Gracen Halton
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Gracen Halton. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick215
Rnd6
Kamran James
Kamran James at the Round 6 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
