Draft Grade — Browns
Overall D
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
The Browns robbed the room for McClellan. Final grade: D.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Browns did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.

It is not that Smith is a bad player; it is that the Browns had louder needs to answer first. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.

The McClellan steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Malik Nabers
In slot 4 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick55 Rnd2 Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul at pick 55 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
Pick66 Rnd3 Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell slipping to Round 3, Pick 2 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick86 Rnd3 Braden Fiske
Braden Fiske in No. 86 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick90 Rnd3 Maason Smith
A curious use of the Round 3 slot. Quarterback and tight end needed the pick; a DT-EDGE in Maason Smith did not.
Pick105 Rnd4 Jalen McMillan
Jalen McMillan in the 105th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick135 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
They let Tommy Eichenberg come to them and pounced at pick 135. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick156 Rnd5 Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson at Round 5, Pick 20 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick205 Rnd6 Michael Wiley
Nice patience on Michael Wiley, who had no business lasting to pick No. 205. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick228 Rnd7 Kenny Logan Jr.
They will replay Kenny Logan Jr. at No. 228 for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick253 Rnd7 Eric Gentry
Eric Gentry at the 253rd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick254 Rnd7 Jase McClellan
Jase McClellan at the 254th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
