The Cowboys finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D.

They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Tony Rojas, 59 picks early at the Round 7 slot. Hard to defend, and the D reflects that.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They have staked the next five years on Fernando Mendoza, which is the only story that really matters here.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. With cornerback, tight end and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on edge rusher is the choice that costs them.

The Haulcy pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
