Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
D-
ValueB-

FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Cowboys to a D-. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Cowboys took Roman Hemby a full 43 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Put together, it is a D-.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They will regret leaving offensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
The Curry steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Mansoor Delane
In pick No. 12 they get a lockdown presence outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick20
Rnd1
Anthony Hill Jr.
A conviction pick on Anthony Hill Jr. at the 20th overall pick that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick40
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
They did well to land Sonny Styles in No. 40, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick75
Rnd3
Lee Hunter
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 3 slot with a little surplus value in Lee Hunter. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick112
Rnd4
Caden Curry
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Caden Curry in Round 4, Pick 12. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick150
Rnd5
Chase Roberts
They took Chase Roberts at par in slot 150, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick177
Rnd5
Bud Clark
No drama and no debate, Bud Clark went about where he belonged in No. 177. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick215
Rnd6
Ahmaad Moses
They went early on Ahmaad Moses in Round 6, Pick 36, and the value did not follow. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick221
Rnd7
Kamran James
A big swing on Kamran James at the 221st pick, well ahead of any board in the building. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick225
Rnd7
Roman Hemby
Roman Hemby at the 225th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
