FutureB+
The Chiefs let McNeil-Warren fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+. The real work happened on the phones. The Chiefs fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The McNeil-Warren pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end, quarterback and other spots still on the board.
They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Akheem Mesidor
In No. 29 they get a bendy edge with upside, though they paid up to get him.
Pick40
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
A reasonable price with a little left over, Dillon Thieneman in Round 2, Pick 8. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick47
Rnd2
Brandon Cisse
A tidy bit of business in the Round 2 slot, where Brandon Cisse graded well above the range. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick74
Rnd3
Christen Miller
Christen Miller in slot 74 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick78
Rnd3
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 78th overall pick on Emmanuel McNeil-Warren with tight end, quarterback and other spots unsolved.
Pick109
Rnd4
Treydan Stukes
They bypassed pressing needs at tight end, quarterback and other spots to take Treydan Stukes, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick121
Rnd4
De'Zhaun Stribling
De'Zhaun Stribling slipping to Round 4, Pick 21 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick176
Rnd5
Febechi Nwaiwu
Febechi Nwaiwu in slot 176 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
