Draft Grade — Cowboys

FutureA+
The Cowboys got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D. The Jamaree Caldwell pick is the one that will follow the Cowboys into the fall. They took him 125 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Gordon II. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback.
It is not that Winston Jr. is a bad player; it is that the Cowboys had louder needs to answer first.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
No drama and no debate, Tetairoa McMillan went about where he belonged in the Round 1 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick19
Rnd1
Luther Burden III
In pick 19 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick37
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori at Round 2, Pick 5 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick45
Rnd2
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at pick No. 45 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick53
Rnd2
Jaxson Dart
A big swing on Jaxson Dart at the 53rd overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Pick75
Rnd3
Tyleik Williams
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Tyleik Williams reach No. 75 and blink. They did not. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick76
Rnd3
Donovan Ezeiruaku
By-the-book stuff, Donovan Ezeiruaku at pick No. 76 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick104
Rnd4
Blake Miller
They reached a country mile for Blake Miller at the Round 4 slot, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick116
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
A surprising call. With cornerback and tight end still to address, they spent No. 116 on Kevin Winston Jr., a safety they were not short of.
Pick119
Rnd4
Danny Stutsman
Danny Stutsman at the 119th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick120
Rnd4
Quinshon Judkins
They will replay Quinshon Judkins at the 120th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick151
Rnd5
Kyle McCord
This one needs a full-page explanation: Kyle McCord in pick 151, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick168
Rnd5
Antwane Wells Jr.
A conviction pick on Antwane Wells Jr. at slot 168 that the board grades a round light. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick170
Rnd5
Ja'Quinden Jackson
They let Ja'Quinden Jackson come to them and pounced at Round 5, Pick 32. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick171
Rnd5
Jamaree Caldwell
Jamaree Caldwell in Round 5, Pick 33 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick189
Rnd6
Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa at slot 189 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick209
Rnd6
Jimmy Horn Jr.
Jimmy Horn Jr. at pick No. 209 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick248
Rnd7
Ollie Gordon II
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Ollie Gordon II in the 248th overall pick, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
