Tdawg DRAFTING FOR THEBrowns
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Browns a B-. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Browns spent the 71st overall pick on Xavier Chaplin, a name most had 34 spots down the list. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. That is a quarterback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
They went 5 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
In the 4th overall pick they get a home-run threat at receiver, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick27
Rnd1
Isaiah World
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a long-term starter on the line, though the board says they badly overpaid. A real need, handled.
Pick40
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
No drama and no debate, Olaivavega Ioane went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick71
Rnd3
Xavier Chaplin
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Xavier Chaplin. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick106
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
They left a pile of value on the table to take Bryce Lance this early at No. 106. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick141
Rnd5
Iapani Laloulu
Iapani Laloulu at pick 141 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick145
Rnd5
Eugene Wilson III
They let Eugene Wilson III come to them and pounced at No. 145. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick150
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
No edge and no loss on DeMonte Capehart in pick 150; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick204
Rnd6
Taylen Green
Nice patience on Taylen Green, who had no business lasting to Round 6, Pick 24. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick244
Rnd7
Jamal Haynes
They jumped the gun on Jamal Haynes, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
