Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D
ValueC NeedB+ TradesF FutureA+
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Cowboys to a D.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Trey Moore at Round 4, Pick 15 is 149 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Perkins Jr.. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. It is not that Mukuba is a bad player; it is that the Cowboys had louder needs to answer first.

For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and cornerback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Will Campbell
In No. 6 they get a building block for the line, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick14 Rnd1 Tre Harris
In pick 14 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick37 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori at the 37th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick45 Rnd2 Donovan Jackson
A big swing on Donovan Jackson at the Round 2 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick75 Rnd3 Kurtis Rourke
They talked themselves into Kurtis Rourke at slot 75, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick76 Rnd3 Alfred Collins
They read the board right and Alfred Collins was the payoff at pick No. 76. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick104 Rnd4 Andrew Mukuba
A surprising call. With cornerback and tight end still to address, they spent the Round 4 slot on Andrew Mukuba, a safety they were not short of.
Pick116 Rnd4 Trey Moore
Trey Moore at the 116th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick119 Rnd4 Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton at slot 119 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick151 Rnd5 Antwane Wells Jr.
Antwane Wells Jr. in Round 5, Pick 13 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick168 Rnd5 Danny Stutsman
Danny Stutsman at No. 168 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick170 Rnd5 Raheim Sanders
Raheim Sanders in pick No. 170 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick171 Rnd5 Tonka Hemingway
Tonka Hemingway in the 171st pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick189 Rnd6 Jimmy Horn Jr.
They reached a country mile for Jimmy Horn Jr. at pick 189, and the board is aghast. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick209 Rnd6 Harold Perkins Jr.
You do not let a linebacker like Harold Perkins Jr. reach slot 209 and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick248 Rnd7 Garrett Greene
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Garrett Greene. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
