FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Cowboys to a D-. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 72 spots for Dani Dennis-Sutton, and value like that does not grow back. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.
The Singleton steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Tre Harris
In the Round 1 slot they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick45
Rnd2
Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker in No. 45 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick65
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
They paid sticker price for Alfred Collins in pick No. 65, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick67
Rnd3
Dani Dennis-Sutton
They reached into another round for Dani Dennis-Sutton, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick76
Rnd3
Jack Nelson
Jack Nelson at the 76th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick103
Rnd4
Jaxson Dart
Jaxson Dart at pick 103 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick139
Rnd5
Kevin Winston Jr.
They will replay Kevin Winston Jr. at slot 139 for years; that is how good the value is. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick151
Rnd5
Danny Stutsman
Danny Stutsman at No. 151 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick168
Rnd5
Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton in the 168th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick170
Rnd5
Antwane Wells Jr.
They went early on Antwane Wells Jr. in Round 5, Pick 32, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick171
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
This one needs a full-page explanation: Xavier Nwankpa in pick 171, miles early. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick190
Rnd6
Tonka Hemingway
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tonka Hemingway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick209
Rnd6
Raheim Sanders
Taking Raheim Sanders in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
