Draft Grade — Bears

FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the Bears this weekend: B+. The Bears put a flag in the ground for J.J. Weaver, 107 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
However the rest shakes out, Perkins Jr. at that price is a win they earned. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Mason Graham
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick36
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
Tate Ratledge at No. 36 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick41
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
No edge and no loss on Tyler Warren in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick53
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton in pick No. 53 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick73
Rnd3
Xavier Watts
You do not let a safety like Xavier Watts reach the 73rd overall pick and blink. They did not. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick97
Rnd3
Earnest Greene III
They reached a country mile for Earnest Greene III at pick 97, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick146
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick No. 146 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick168
Rnd5
Jake Majors
Jake Majors at Round 5, Pick 30 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick203
Rnd6
Harold Perkins Jr.
Circle this one: Harold Perkins Jr. at slot 203 is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
Pick228
Rnd7
Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa at the 228th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick244
Rnd7
J.J. Weaver
A wild overpay on J.J. Weaver in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
