Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
D-
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesF
FutureB-
The Bears left with their quarterback, and a D- to match. The rest of the league had time to spare on Isaiah Davis; the Bears did not wait, grabbing him 74 spots ahead at pick No. 225.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They have staked the next five years on Caleb Williams, which is the only story that really matters here. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
However the rest shakes out, Verse at that price is a win they earned.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, interior defensive lineman very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In Round 1, Pick 1 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick4
Rnd1
Laiatu Latu
In pick 4 they get juice off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick40
Rnd2
Jared Verse
Jared Verse at No. 40 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick68
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
No edge and no loss on Sedrick Van Pran in the 68th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick108
Rnd4
Devontez Walker
Devontez Walker at the Round 4 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick121
Rnd4
Kiran Amegadjie
You do not let an offensive lineman like Kiran Amegadjie reach slot 121 and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
Pick124
Rnd4
Roman Wilson
Value with a capital V on Roman Wilson in pick 124, a genuine coup. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick132
Rnd4
Payton Wilson
They went early on Payton Wilson in pick No. 132, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick141
Rnd5
Cole Bishop
A conviction pick on Cole Bishop at Round 5, Pick 5 that the board grades a round light. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick182
Rnd6
Darius Robinson
Value said wait; Darius Robinson in the 182nd pick says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick225
Rnd7
Isaiah Davis
A big swing on Isaiah Davis at slot 225, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
