Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Bears bet the future on Maye. The board says D-.

There is reaching, and then there is Christian Mahogany at the 158th overall pick. The Bears jumped the board by 30 and dared it to prove them wrong.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. So much rides on Drake Maye that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. A whole weekend of picks and linebacker is somehow still a want.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Marshall Jr..

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and linebacker is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In Round 1, Pick 1 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick4 Rnd1 Malik Nabers
In the Round 1 slot they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick55 Rnd2 Kamren Kinchens
They paid a round early for Kamren Kinchens in pick 55, more than the board wanted. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick68 Rnd3 Jack Sawyer
They took Jack Sawyer at par in pick No. 68, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick104 Rnd4 Audric Estime
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Audric Estime. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick121 Rnd4 Zach Frazier
The board had cheaper options than Zach Frazier at No. 121, and it noticed. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick132 Rnd4 Devontez Walker
Devontez Walker in pick 132 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick141 Rnd5 Jason Marshall Jr.
Jason Marshall Jr. at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick158 Rnd5 Christian Mahogany
A real head-scratcher, Christian Mahogany in the 158th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick182 Rnd6 Fabien Lovett
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at the 182nd pick is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick225 Rnd7 Benjamin Yurosek
They liked Benjamin Yurosek enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 225. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
