Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Cowboys spent Round 5, Pick 33 on Jamaree Caldwell, a name the board had a full 108 spots lower.

They banked enough surplus on Simon to cover a lot of smaller sins. They have staked the next five years on Shedeur Sanders, which is the only story that really matters here.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The Mukuba pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with cornerback and tight end still on the board.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and cornerback is still a hole.
