Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall A-
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Commanders fleeced the room on the phones and earned a A-.

The trade table was a mismatch, and the Commanders were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.

The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Adding Cole Kmet by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

It is a haul that will look even better come September.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Taliese Fuaga
In the 9th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick36 Rnd2 Tyler Nubin
Nothing to complain about; Tyler Nubin went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick39 Rnd2 Byron Murphy II
They paid sticker price for Byron Murphy II in No. 39, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick40 Rnd2 Xavier Worthy
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Worthy at Round 2, Pick 8, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick67 Rnd3 Edgerrin Cooper
Value with a capital V on Edgerrin Cooper in the Round 3 slot, a genuine coup. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick102 Rnd4 Zak Zinter
They read the board right and Zak Zinter was the payoff at pick 102. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick107 Rnd4 Malik Washington
A premium they did not need to pay, Malik Washington a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick141 Rnd5 Kamal Hadden
Kamal Hadden at the 141st pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick181 Rnd6 Andrew Raym
By-the-book stuff, Andrew Raym at the 181st pick squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick223 Rnd7 David Ugwoegbu
David Ugwoegbu at Round 7, Pick 3 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster logic is harder to follow.
Pick227 Rnd7 Trevor Keegan
Trevor Keegan at slot 227 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
