Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B-
ValueC NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Lions kept it disciplined and banked a B-.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: David Ugwoegbu in Round 7, Pick 27, a good 79 spots before the room expected him. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick29 Rnd1 Darius Robinson
In pick 29 they get a problem off the edge, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick61 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
They paid up for Cooper Beebe at No. 61 when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick73 Rnd3 Xavier Legette
No drama and no debate, Xavier Legette went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick105 Rnd4 Andru Phillips
They paid a round early for Andru Phillips in the 105th overall pick, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick137 Rnd5 Jarrian Jones
They jumped the gun on Jarrian Jones, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick163 Rnd5 Luke McCaffrey
A straight-up fair deal on Luke McCaffrey at slot 163, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick207 Rnd6 Garret Greenfield
They went early on Garret Greenfield in the 207th pick, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick247 Rnd7 David Ugwoegbu
A big swing on David Ugwoegbu at Round 7, Pick 27, well ahead of any board in the building. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
