FutureB
No fireworks, just a tidy B for the Steelers. Nobody had Joe Milton III this high, and it is not close. The Steelers reached 81 spots to get him at No. 119. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The Zinter pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with safety, running back and other spots still on the board. Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
On value alone, Pearsall makes the weekend a net positive. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick37
Rnd2
Kool-Aid McKinstry
Kool-Aid McKinstry in pick 37 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick51
Rnd2
Payton Wilson
They paid sticker price for Payton Wilson in slot 51, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick69
Rnd3
Ricky Pearsall
Ricky Pearsall slid further than he should have, and the Round 3 slot is lovely value for the wide receiver. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick84
Rnd3
Christian Mahogany
A premium they did not need to pay, Christian Mahogany a notch or two before his time. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick98
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
A curious use of No. 98. Safety, running back and other spots needed the pick; an offensive lineman in Zak Zinter did not.
Pick105
Rnd4
Beaux Limmer
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Beaux Limmer adds an offensive lineman and leaves safety, running back and other spots untouched.
Pick119
Rnd4
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at slot 119 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick178
Rnd6
Jaden Crumedy
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaden Crumedy well ahead of where he belonged. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick195
Rnd6
Myles Cole
Myles Cole at pick No. 195 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
