Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall
B
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Williams should have been long gone. The Raiders pounced, and earned a B. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how James Williams got past him. The Raiders do not have to explain a thing at slot 150. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The cost of the All reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
Taliese Fuaga at slot 13 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick46
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
T.J. Tampa at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick77
Rnd3
Payton Wilson
They took Payton Wilson at par in the 77th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick117
Rnd4
Cooper Beebe
Nothing to complain about; Cooper Beebe went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick140
Rnd5
Javon Foster
Value with a capital V on Javon Foster in pick No. 140, a genuine coup. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick146
Rnd5
Jordan Travis
Jordan Travis at Round 5, Pick 10 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick150
Rnd5
James Williams
James Williams at pick 150 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick190
Rnd6
De'Corian Clark
De'Corian Clark in the 190th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick227
Rnd7
Fentrell Cypress II
No edge and no loss on Fentrell Cypress II in pick No. 227; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick234
Rnd7
Erick All
A conviction pick on Erick All at the 234th pick that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick235
Rnd7
Eric Gentry
A straight-up fair deal on Eric Gentry at No. 235, value and slot in agreement. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
