Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB- TradesA+ FutureF
The Commanders won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B-.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Commanders took Derrick Moore a full 32 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. They will answer for taking linebacker early while wide receiver, quarterback and other spots went begging.

However the rest shakes out, Sadiq at that price is a win they earned.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick16 Rnd1 Arvell Reese
In pick No. 16 they get the heartbeat of the defense, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Pick33 Rnd2 Kenyon Sadiq
Nice patience on Kenyon Sadiq, who had no business lasting to the Round 2 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick44 Rnd2 Sonny Styles
A curious use of the 44th overall pick. Wide receiver, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a linebacker in Sonny Styles did not.
Pick71 Rnd3 Derrick Moore
Derrick Moore at the 71st pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick103 Rnd4 Daylen Everette
A reasonable price with a little left over, Daylen Everette in Round 4, Pick 3. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick146 Rnd5 Oscar Delp
Oscar Delp at slot 146 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick186 Rnd6 Bud Clark
They paid sticker price for Bud Clark in pick No. 186, and that is fine. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick197 Rnd6 Fernando Carmona
Value said wait; Fernando Carmona in pick 197 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick223 Rnd7 Roderick Kearney
Roderick Kearney in the 223rd pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
