Best value of the weekend goes to the Cowboys for Coleman: C-. The Cowboys lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.
That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Coleman at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The Kilgore pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with wide receiver, cornerback and other spots still on the board.
They are betting Dennis-Sutton proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Hit on Caleb Downs and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In slot 14 they get a rangy last line of defense at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick24
Rnd1
Dani Dennis-Sutton
In the Round 1 slot they get a double-digit-sack hope, though they paid up to get him. Need was not the driver here.
Pick80
Rnd3
Jonah Coleman
You do not let a running back like Jonah Coleman reach the 80th overall pick and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick114
Rnd4
Jalon Kilgore
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Jalon Kilgore while clear needs at wide receiver, cornerback and other spots sat open.
Pick154
Rnd5
J.C. Davis
They barely believed it either: J.C. Davis still on the board at pick No. 154. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick176
Rnd5
Nico Iamaleava
Steal is underselling it; Nico Iamaleava at the 176th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
