Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Chase Roberts at the 112th pick is 44 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Whatever Ty Simpson becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer.

It is not that Jackson Jr. is a bad player; it is that the Cowboys had louder needs to answer first. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.

They banked enough surplus on Hunter to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
