A costly weekend of dealing drags the Cowboys to a D.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cowboys did exactly that with Will Sheppard in the 209th pick. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it.

Getting Perkins Jr. where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, cornerback very much included.
