FutureB-
The Cowboys let Dart fall into their laps, and walked away with a D. The Cowboys looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Alfred Collins at the 188th overall pick regardless, 34 picks early.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The Stewart pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end still on the board.
The Dart value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Will Campbell
Fair-plus on Will Campbell, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick44
Rnd2
Luther Burden III
Luther Burden III in No. 44 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick45
Rnd2
Mykel Williams
Good price on Mykel Williams in the 45th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick55
Rnd2
TreVeyon Henderson
They paid sticker price for TreVeyon Henderson in the 55th pick, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick77
Rnd3
Earnest Greene III
Earnest Greene III in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick80
Rnd3
Lander Barton
Value said wait; Lander Barton in the 80th overall pick says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick102
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
A tidy bit of business in the 102nd pick, where Tacario Davis graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick113
Rnd4
Shemar Stewart
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Shemar Stewart at edge rusher with tight end open.
Pick116
Rnd4
Raheim Sanders
Raheim Sanders at pick 116 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick122
Rnd4
J.Michael Sturdivant
They left a pile of value on the table to take J.Michael Sturdivant this early at pick No. 122. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick151
Rnd5
LT Overton
LT Overton at No. 151 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick169
Rnd5
Nic Anderson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Nic Anderson in slot 169. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick170
Rnd5
Jaxson Dart
Jaxson Dart at No. 170 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick172
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa at slot 172 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick188
Rnd6
Alfred Collins
A wild overpay on Alfred Collins in pick 188, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick209
Rnd6
Donovan Smith
The board fumbled Donovan Smith all the way to the Round 6 slot, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
