Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
C
ValueB
NeedB-
TradesF
FutureB
The Cowboys let Henderson fall and pounced. Final grade: C. You build a draft on nights like this. TreVeyon Henderson had no business being available in pick No. 171, and the Cowboys did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Call it a C and check back in two years.
If Howard pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
If Mason Graham and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Mason Graham
In the 13th overall pick they get a disruptive interior force. A real need, handled.
Pick42
Rnd2
Nic Scourton
They paid up for Nic Scourton at slot 42 when waiting would have done the job. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick67
Rnd3
Tyler Booker
A quiet steal in the 67th pick: Tyler Booker for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick75
Rnd3
Sonny Styles
Sonny Styles in Round 3, Pick 11 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick78
Rnd3
Kenneth Grant
They let Kenneth Grant come to them and pounced at the Round 3 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick106
Rnd4
Elic Ayomanor
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 106 with a little surplus value in Elic Ayomanor. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick149
Rnd5
Danny Stutsman
A linebacker of that caliber at No. 149 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick150
Rnd5
Deone Walker
They robbed the room for Deone Walker here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick169
Rnd5
Theo Wease Jr.
A premium they did not need to pay, Theo Wease Jr. a notch or two before his time. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick170
Rnd5
Will Howard
They left a pile of value on the table to take Will Howard this early at No. 170. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick171
Rnd5
TreVeyon Henderson
Steal is underselling it; TreVeyon Henderson at Round 5, Pick 33 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick186
Rnd6
Raheim Sanders
Raheim Sanders at pick No. 186 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick209
Rnd6
J.Michael Sturdivant
They took J.Michael Sturdivant at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
