FutureA
The Cowboys got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Cowboys did exactly that with Vincent Anthony Jr. in pick 126. It washes out to a C, no better and no worse.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The Anthony Jr. pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at tight end. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
In the end, a coin-flip class: fine today, with a wide range of outcomes ahead.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
David Bailey
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptor off the edge, though they paid up to get him. Need was not the driver here.
Pick32
Rnd1
Isaiah World
In the 32nd pick they get a blindside protector, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick65
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Nicholas Singleton well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick91
Rnd3
Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley at Round 3, Pick 27 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick96
Rnd3
Malachi Fields
A reasonable price with a little left over, Malachi Fields in pick No. 96. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick104
Rnd4
Harold Perkins Jr.
No edge and no loss on Harold Perkins Jr. in pick 104; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick112
Rnd4
Tacario Davis
Tacario Davis in Round 4, Pick 12 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick126
Rnd4
Vincent Anthony Jr.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending No. 126 on Vincent Anthony Jr. with tight end unsolved.
Pick152
Rnd5
Nico Iamaleava
They went early on Nico Iamaleava in the Round 5 slot, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick177
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
A premium they did not need to pay, Xavier Nwankpa a notch or two before his time. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick216
Rnd7
DeAndre Moore Jr.
A reach on DeAndre Moore Jr. in pick 216; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick226
Rnd7
Daevin Hobbs
Daevin Hobbs in slot 226 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick229
Rnd7
Jamal Haynes
Jamal Haynes at the 229th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
