Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall

FutureB-
The Cowboys bled value on every deal, hence the D+. Nobody had James Williams Sr. this high, and it is not close. The Cowboys reached 61 spots to get him at Round 7, Pick 17.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Cowboys indulged a want in Kilgore while a need in cornerback, tight end and other spots stayed open.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Iamaleava.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Caleb Downs
In No. 12 they get a two-high chess piece at a price that makes it sweeter. More want than need.
Pick25
Rnd1
Matayo Uiagalelei
In slot 25 they get a double-digit-sack hope. Need was not the driver here.
Pick73
Rnd3
Caleb Tiernan
Caleb Tiernan at the Round 3 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick112
Rnd4
Jalon Kilgore
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Jalon Kilgore while clear needs at cornerback, tight end and other spots sat open.
Pick152
Rnd5
Chase Roberts
A straight-up fair deal on Chase Roberts at Round 5, Pick 12, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick177
Rnd5
Nico Iamaleava
Nico Iamaleava in pick No. 177 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick217
Rnd7
Mark Fletcher Jr.
Nice patience on Mark Fletcher Jr., who had no business lasting to the Round 7 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick231
Rnd7
James Williams Sr.
This one needs a full-page explanation: James Williams Sr. in the 231st overall pick, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
