Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall

ValueB

FutureB-
Larceny in No. 172 lands the Cowboys a D-, Allar and all. The rest of the league will want that one back. Drew Allar tumbling to the Cowboys in the Round 5 slot is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
They will need Sturdivant to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Spending an early pick on edge rusher with tight end open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In slot 13 they get a cornerstone up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick44
Rnd2
Landon Jackson
Nothing to complain about; Landon Jackson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick55
Rnd2
Jonah Savaiinaea
Jonah Savaiinaea slipping to pick 55 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick66
Rnd3
Abdul Carter
A want over a need in the 66th pick: Abdul Carter adds an edge rusher while tight end keeps waiting.
Pick77
Rnd3
Ollie Gordon II
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ollie Gordon II. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick102
Rnd4
Evan Stewart
A tidy bit of business in the 102nd overall pick, where Evan Stewart graded well above the range. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick113
Rnd4
J.Michael Sturdivant
J.Michael Sturdivant at the Round 4 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick133
Rnd4
Phil Mafah
Phil Mafah at Round 4, Pick 32 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick151
Rnd5
Jaishawn Barham
Value said wait; Jaishawn Barham in the Round 5 slot says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick169
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
Value with a capital V on Xavier Nwankpa in No. 169, a genuine coup. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick170
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
A premium they did not need to pay, Davison Igbinosun a notch or two before his time. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick172
Rnd5
Drew Allar
Taking Drew Allar in the 172nd pick is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick188
Rnd6
Alfred Collins
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Alfred Collins well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick209
Rnd6
Kyren Lacy
They liked Kyren Lacy enough to skip the value, taking him in the 209th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
