Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall
D
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesF
FutureB
The Cowboys bled value on every deal, hence the D. The Cowboys torched the value chart for Barryn Sorrell, taking him 101 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Perkins Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. It is not that Styles is a bad player; it is that the Cowboys had louder needs to answer first.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In No. 7 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick13
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick38
Rnd2
Jack Sawyer
By-the-book stuff, Jack Sawyer at pick No. 38 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick44
Rnd2
DJ Campbell
They paid sticker price for DJ Campbell in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick69
Rnd3
Xavier Watts
They barely believed it either: Xavier Watts still on the board at pick 69. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick73
Rnd3
Sonny Styles
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending slot 73 on Sonny Styles with cornerback and tight end unsolved.
Pick77
Rnd3
Jaxson Dart
Jaxson Dart in pick 77 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick95
Rnd3
TreVeyon Henderson
A running back of that caliber at the 95th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick105
Rnd4
Ajani Cornelius
Ajani Cornelius at the 105th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick109
Rnd4
Rylie Mills
Rylie Mills at Round 4, Pick 8 is a conviction pick that outran the value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick113
Rnd4
Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton slipping to pick No. 113 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick151
Rnd5
Lander Barton
Circle this one: Lander Barton at slot 151 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick169
Rnd5
Barryn Sorrell
They reached into another round for Barryn Sorrell, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick170
Rnd5
Antwane Wells Jr.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Antwane Wells Jr. this early at the Round 5 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick172
Rnd5
Harold Perkins Jr.
The board fumbled Harold Perkins Jr. all the way to pick No. 172, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick188
Rnd6
Will Howard
Will Howard at the 188th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick209
Rnd6
Jamaree Caldwell
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jamaree Caldwell well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
