HBli5929 DRAFTING FOR THEBuccaneers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Buccaneers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Buccaneers, and a B- to prove it. For all the boxes ticked, the Buccaneers skipped the loudest one: interior defensive lineman is exactly as bare as it was. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The cost of the Joly reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick29
Rnd1
Caleb Banks
They paid sticker price for Caleb Banks in slot 29, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick61
Rnd2
Malik Muhammad
Malik Muhammad in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick93
Rnd3
Whit Weeks
No drama and no debate, Whit Weeks went about where he belonged in pick 93. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick129
Rnd4
Justin Joly
They paid a round early for Justin Joly in the 129th overall pick, more than the board wanted. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick169
Rnd5
Aamil Wagner
No edge and no loss on Aamil Wagner in pick No. 169; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick208
Rnd6
DJ Harvey
A straight-up fair deal on DJ Harvey at No. 208, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick243
Rnd7
Diego Pavia
Diego Pavia in the 243rd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
