Draft Grade — Patriots

FutureA
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Patriots. The Patriots clearly saw something nobody else did in Torricelli Simpkins III, taking him 49 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
Getting Collins where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Tyler Warren
In the 14th overall pick they get a moveable chess piece at tight end. A real need, handled.
Pick38
Rnd2
Josh Conerly Jr.
They paid sticker price for Josh Conerly Jr. in pick No. 38, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick45
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins in the 45th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick69
Rnd3
Kyle Kennard
Kyle Kennard in Round 3, Pick 5 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick77
Rnd3
Alfred Collins
They will replay Alfred Collins at pick 77 for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick106
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
They read the board right and Kevin Winston Jr. was the payoff at No. 106. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick144
Rnd5
Bhayshul Tuten
The board had cheaper options than Bhayshul Tuten at pick No. 144, and it noticed. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick149
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Dont'e Thornton Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick217
Rnd7
Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson
Nice patience on Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson, who had no business lasting to the 217th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick220
Rnd7
Torricelli Simpkins III
They left a pile of value on the table to take Torricelli Simpkins III this early at the Round 7 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick232
Rnd7
Robert Longerbeam
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Robert Longerbeam at pick 232 is the proof. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
