Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall

FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Patriots: B-. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: JJ Pegues, 36 picks early at pick 149. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
The Trapilo value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Kelvin Banks Jr.
In pick 11 they get a long-term starter on the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
Taking Tyler Warren in the 38th pick is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick43
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker in the 43rd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick69
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jayden Higgins in slot 69. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick73
Rnd3
Tre Harris
A quiet steal in No. 73: Tre Harris for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick77
Rnd3
Dylan Sampson
Dylan Sampson at Round 3, Pick 13 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
Pick113
Rnd4
Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo at pick No. 113 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick144
Rnd5
Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore at pick 144 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick149
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
JJ Pegues at Round 5, Pick 11 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick217
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa at No. 217 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick220
Rnd7
Addison West
The board had Addison West higher than the 220th pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick227
Rnd7
Zeek Biggers
A wild overpay on Zeek Biggers in slot 227, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
