Draft Grade — Browns
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesC- FutureA
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Browns: B-.

There is a lot to like until you notice quarterback is still a hole. The Browns never got to the one that mattered most. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

Reaching for Hobbs left real value on the table behind him. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.

They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick18 Rnd1 Caleb Lomu
In slot 18 they get a cornerstone up front, even if it was a touch early. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick24 Rnd1 Denzel Boston
In the 24th overall pick they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39 Rnd2 Emmanuel Pregnon
A straight-up fair deal on Emmanuel Pregnon at pick 39, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick49 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at the 49th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick70 Rnd3 Ja'Kobi Lane
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ja'Kobi Lane. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick107 Rnd4 Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick139 Rnd5 Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson at Round 5, Pick 1 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick144 Rnd5 Aamil Wagner
They jumped the gun on Aamil Wagner, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick147 Rnd5 DJ Campbell
They went early on DJ Campbell in No. 147, and the value did not follow. The roster fit checks out.
Pick194 Rnd6 Daevin Hobbs
They talked themselves into Daevin Hobbs at the 194th pick, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick204 Rnd6 Robert Spears-Jennings
They paid sticker price for Robert Spears-Jennings in pick No. 204, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick248 Rnd7 Will Kacmarek
A tidy little value on Will Kacmarek in pick 248, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
