FutureB+
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Steelers. The Steelers put a flag in the ground for J.J. Weaver, 227 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The Paul pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
It is not that Cohen is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick35
Rnd2
Quinyon Mitchell
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Quinyon Mitchell at Round 2, Pick 3 is the proof. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick51
Rnd2
Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. in pick 51 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick84
Rnd3
Tommy Eichenberg
They talked themselves into Tommy Eichenberg at slot 84, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick90
Rnd3
J.J. Weaver
J.J. Weaver at the 90th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick98
Rnd3
Patrick Paul
You do not let an offensive lineman like Patrick Paul reach the Round 3 slot and blink. They did not. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick119
Rnd4
Javion Cohen
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Javion Cohen at offensive lineman with safety, running back and other spots open.
Pick162
Rnd5
Joe Milton III
Joe Milton III at pick No. 162 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick178
Rnd6
Andrew Raym
Andrew Raym in pick 178 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick195
Rnd6
Evan Anderson
They reached a country mile for Evan Anderson at the 195th pick, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
