Lezzard DRAFTING FOR THEChiefs
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chiefs

FutureB-
The Chiefs let Mayes fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Chiefs were there to profit. BJ Mayes, the No. 217 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 247th pick. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In pick No. 26 they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick58
Rnd2
Troy Fautanu
Somehow Troy Fautanu was still sitting there in the 58th overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick89
Rnd3
Ricky Pearsall
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick 89 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick126
Rnd4
Dominick Puni
They barely believed it either: Dominick Puni still on the board at the Round 4 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick167
Rnd5
Dylan Laube
Dylan Laube at the 167th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick171
Rnd5
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at slot 171 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick175
Rnd5
Cole Bishop
Steal is underselling it; Cole Bishop at Round 5, Pick 39 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick204
Rnd6
Michael Barrett
The board had Michael Barrett higher than No. 204, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick247
Rnd7
BJ Mayes
They will replay BJ Mayes at the 247th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It adds depth where they could use a little.
