The Cowboys let Banks fall into their laps, and walked away with a B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Caleb Banks, the No. 28 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 51st pick. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They will need Dunker to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Gennings Dunker
In slot 11 they get a cornerstone up front, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick22
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In No. 22 they get an every-down engine for the run game at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Pick51
Rnd2
Caleb Banks
Taking Caleb Banks in Round 2, Pick 19 is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick84
Rnd3
Harold Perkins Jr.
They paid a round early for Harold Perkins Jr. in pick No. 84, more than the board wanted. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick111
Rnd4
Nico Iamaleava
Nice patience on Nico Iamaleava, who had no business lasting to the Round 4 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick150
Rnd5
Chase Roberts
Chase Roberts at pick 150 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick177
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
They barely believed it either: Davison Igbinosun still on the board at the 177th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick182
Rnd5
Taylen Green
Value with a capital V on Taylen Green in the 182nd pick, a genuine coup. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
