The phones sank the Cowboys this weekend: D. The Cowboys went off the board in a big way for Alfred Collins, 49 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. However the rest shakes out, Higgins at that price is a win they earned. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Tre Harris
In No. 13 they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick44
Rnd2
Cameron Williams
A quiet steal in the 44th pick: Cameron Williams for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick55
Rnd2
Landon Jackson
They will replay Landon Jackson at Round 2, Pick 23 for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick65
Rnd3
Emery Jones Jr.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Emery Jones Jr.. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick77
Rnd3
Ollie Gordon II
A straight-up fair deal on Ollie Gordon II at slot 77, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick102
Rnd4
Lander Barton
They paid up for Lander Barton at the 102nd overall pick when waiting would have done the job. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick113
Rnd4
Drew Allar
Nice patience on Drew Allar, who had no business lasting to Round 4, Pick 12. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick151
Rnd5
Raheim Sanders
They robbed the room for Raheim Sanders here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick169
Rnd5
Elijah Roberts
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Elijah Roberts well ahead of where he belonged. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick170
Rnd5
Jayden Higgins
Taking Jayden Higgins in the 170th pick is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick172
Rnd5
Alfred Collins
A big swing on Alfred Collins at the 172nd overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick188
Rnd6
Shilo Sanders
They reached a country mile for Shilo Sanders at the Round 6 slot, and the board is aghast. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick209
Rnd6
Gentry Williams
Gentry Williams at No. 209 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
