Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB+ FutureC
The Steelers cashed the board's mistake on Beck: B.

Thirty-one other rooms let Carson Beck slide, and the Steelers were the ones holding the card at pick No. 216. Highway robbery.

The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Orange has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Carnell Tate
Carnell Tate slid further than he should have, and pick No. 32 is lovely value for the wide receiver. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick62 Rnd2 John Mateer
John Mateer at the 62nd pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick64 Rnd2 Dillon Thieneman
A tidy little value on Dillon Thieneman in No. 64, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick76 Rnd3 Domonique Orange
A reach on Domonique Orange in Round 3, Pick 12; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick94 Rnd3 Caleb Tiernan
Caleb Tiernan at pick 94 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick99 Rnd3 Harold Perkins Jr.
Harold Perkins Jr. in the 99th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick130 Rnd4 Kevin Coleman Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Kevin Coleman Jr. at the Round 4 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick133 Rnd4 Jadarian Price
Jadarian Price at slot 133 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick171 Rnd5 Iapani Laloulu
A quiet steal in Round 5, Pick 30: Iapani Laloulu for less than the market said. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick179 Rnd5 Jermaine Mathews Jr.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jermaine Mathews Jr. in the Round 5 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick210 Rnd6 Makhi Hughes
Makhi Hughes in the 210th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
Pick216 Rnd6 Carson Beck
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Carson Beck in pick No. 216, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick247 Rnd7 Tristan Leigh
Tristan Leigh in the 247th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
