MBURT DRAFTING FOR THESteelers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Simpson is the plan now, and the Steelers grade out a B. The Steelers spent the pick that matters most on Ty Simpson, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The Bell steal is the beam this whole class leans on. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
The cost of the Orange reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Ty Simpson
In the Round 1 slot they get a passer to set the clock by at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick62
Rnd2
Chris Bell
Chris Bell at pick No. 62 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick76
Rnd3
Domonique Orange
The board had cheaper options than Domonique Orange at Round 3, Pick 12, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick94
Rnd3
Harold Perkins Jr.
A conviction pick on Harold Perkins Jr. at the 94th overall pick that the board grades a round light. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick99
Rnd3
Justice Haynes
They paid sticker price for Justice Haynes in pick 99, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick130
Rnd4
Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson at No. 130 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
Pick133
Rnd4
Jalon Kilgore
Steal is underselling it; Jalon Kilgore at the 133rd pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick171
Rnd5
Aamil Wagner
No drama and no debate, Aamil Wagner went about where he belonged in slot 171. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick179
Rnd5
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
Jermaine Mathews Jr. in pick No. 179 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
Pick210
Rnd6
Makhi Hughes
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Makhi Hughes in Round 6, Pick 30. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick216
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III in the 216th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick247
Rnd7
Brett Norfleet
No edge and no loss on Brett Norfleet in pick 247; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
