The Cowboys answered their biggest question with Moore. Grade: D. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Cowboys did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
Dante Moore is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Every board in the league had Roberts lower, and that gap is the story.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Dante Moore
In pick 6 they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
Pick13
Rnd1
Cam Coleman
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick27
Rnd1
Trey'Dez Green
In pick No. 27 they get a security blanket over the middle. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick44
Rnd2
Will Heldt
No edge and no loss on Will Heldt in Round 2, Pick 12; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick46
Rnd2
Ashton Hampton
A conviction pick on Ashton Hampton at slot 46 that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick72
Rnd3
Ben Roberts
They talked themselves into Ben Roberts at No. 72, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick75
Rnd3
Bear Alexander
The board had Bear Alexander higher than the 75th overall pick, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Pick112
Rnd4
LJ Martin
They went early on LJ Martin in the 112th pick, and the value did not follow. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick124
Rnd4
Marcus Neal Jr.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Marcus Neal Jr. in the Round 4 slot. It adds depth where they could use a little.
