Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall

FutureA+
The Cowboys answered their biggest question with Manning. Grade: D. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Cowboys did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
They are betting Oyebadejo proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Everything downstream of Arch Manning depends on Arch Manning, and the building knows it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. It is not that Rhodes Jr. is a bad player; it is that the Cowboys had louder needs to answer first.
The Neal Jr. steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Arch Manning
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a long-term answer under center, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
Pick22
Rnd1
KJ Bolden
In pick No. 22 they get an enforcer at safety. More want than need.
Pick37
Rnd2
Trey'Dez Green
Trey'Dez Green slipping to the 37th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick39
Rnd2
Emmanuel Oyebadejo
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Emmanuel Oyebadejo. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick46
Rnd2
Jadan Baugh
They read the board right and Jadan Baugh was the payoff at pick 46. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick68
Rnd3
Ashton Hampton
Ashton Hampton at the 68th pick is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick84
Rnd3
Quincy Rhodes Jr.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Quincy Rhodes Jr. at edge rusher with interior defensive lineman open.
Pick87
Rnd3
Reed Harris
A reach for Reed Harris in the Round 3 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick109
Rnd4
Melvin Siani
Fair-plus on Melvin Siani, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick119
Rnd4
Tony Rojas
A reach on Tony Rojas in the Round 4 slot; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick143
Rnd5
Marcus Neal Jr.
The board fumbled Marcus Neal Jr. all the way to pick No. 143, and they scooped it up. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
