Nobody dealt better than the Bears this weekend: B. The Bears looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Parker Brailsford at Round 2, Pick 21 regardless, 65 picks early. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.
Pick Analysis
Pick22
Rnd1
James Pearce Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a problem off the edge, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick49
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tate Ratledge at pick 49. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick53
Rnd2
Parker Brailsford
Value said wait; Parker Brailsford in pick No. 53 says they were not listening. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick77
Rnd3
Josh Simmons
No edge and no loss on Josh Simmons in slot 77; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick116
Rnd4
Shavon Revel Jr.
A tidy little value on Shavon Revel Jr. in No. 116, a step better than break-even. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick120
Rnd4
Andrew Mukuba
Andrew Mukuba at the 120th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick149
Rnd5
Jonah Coleman
Jonah Coleman at pick 149 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick152
Rnd5
Barion Brown
They took Barion Brown at par in the 152nd pick, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick201
Rnd6
Tim Smith
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tim Smith this early at No. 201. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick245
Rnd7
Maliq Carr
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Maliq Carr. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick256
Rnd7
Bru McCoy
Bru McCoy slipping to the 256th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
