Draft Grade — Steelers

The Steelers finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B-.

The Steelers spent the pick that matters most on Jayden Maiava, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.

If Maiava pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. On value alone, Leavitt makes the weekend a net positive.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Jayden Maiava
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jayden Maiava. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick51 Rnd2 Austin Barber
A reach for Austin Barber in pick No. 51; a little patience would have been rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick84 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
They paid up for Omar Cooper Jr. at the Round 3 slot when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick99 Rnd3 Sam Leavitt
A slide stopped in the 99th overall pick, with Sam Leavitt worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick113 Rnd4 Justice Haynes
Justice Haynes is a better player than pick 113 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick119 Rnd4 Jack Endries
The board had Jack Endries higher than Round 4, Pick 19, and the tight end fell to them anyway. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick133 Rnd4 Tao Johnson
They did well to land Tao Johnson in No. 133, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
