FutureB-
Nobody dealt better than the Bears this weekend: B. The Bears put a flag in the ground for Roman Hemby, 91 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. The bottom line is a respectable B.
On value alone, Fairchild makes the weekend a net positive. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
James Pearce Jr.
In pick 18 they get a premier pass rusher, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick37
Rnd2
Deone Walker
Deone Walker in pick No. 37 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick46
Rnd2
Wyatt Milum
Wyatt Milum in No. 46 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick77
Rnd3
Parker Brailsford
They reached a country mile for Parker Brailsford at slot 77, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick101
Rnd3
Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild in the 101st pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick153
Rnd5
Antonio Williams
Nice patience on Antonio Williams, who had no business lasting to Round 5, Pick 15. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick201
Rnd6
Roman Hemby
This one needs a full-page explanation: Roman Hemby in the 201st overall pick, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick213
Rnd6
Dasan McCullough
Dasan McCullough in pick 213 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick245
Rnd7
Jacobe Covington
Jacobe Covington at Round 7, Pick 31 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick256
Rnd7
Dontay Corleone
A big swing on Dontay Corleone at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
