Larceny in the 97th overall pick lands the Vikings a B-, Taaffe and all. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Vikings watched Michael Taaffe slide 31 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
The cost of the Singleton reach is exactly the players who went right after him. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Job largely done: safety settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. The back end got a real overhaul.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Jermod McCoy
In No. 11 they get a potential shutdown corner. Need was not the driver here.
Pick42
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Anthony Hill Jr. in the 42nd pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick73
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
A big swing on Nicholas Singleton at the 73rd overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick97
Rnd3
Michael Taaffe
A safety of that caliber at Round 3, Pick 33 is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick161
Rnd5
Terrance Carter Jr.
Terrance Carter Jr. slipping to the Round 5 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick200
Rnd6
Duce Robinson
Duce Robinson in slot 200 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick226
Rnd7
Amare Campbell
They went early on Amare Campbell in pick 226, and the value did not follow. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick241
Rnd7
Tristan Leigh
A premium they did not need to pay, Tristan Leigh a notch or two before his time. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
