Draft Grade — Lions
Overall B
ValueB- NeedA- TradesB- FutureB-
The Lions won the night they stopped Allar from sliding. Grade: B.

Somebody in slot 204 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Lions sat still while Drew Allar, the No. 158 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

If Moore pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Leaving linebacker unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes. They reloaded the coverage unit in bulk.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Avieon Terrell
In pick No. 17 they get a lockdown presence outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick50 Rnd2 Xavier Chaplin
Xavier Chaplin in No. 50 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick118 Rnd4 Derrick Moore
Derrick Moore at the 118th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick136 Rnd4 Terry Moore
Terry Moore in pick 136 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick157 Rnd5 Nic Anderson
Fair-plus on Nic Anderson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick187 Rnd6 Gracen Halton
Gracen Halton in slot 187 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick204 Rnd6 Drew Allar
A top-tier quarterback at a bargain, Drew Allar in the 204th pick, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick222 Rnd7 DJ Harvey
DJ Harvey in the Round 7 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
