Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall C+
ValueC NeedC+ TradesB- FutureB-
Some hits, some head-scratchers, and a C+ for the Cowboys.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 50 spots for Princewill Umanmielen, and value like that does not grow back. It lands right in the middle: a C+, no more, no less.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up. Spending an early pick on edge rusher with cornerback, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.

Pick Analysis
Pick16 Rnd1 Cashius Howell
Cashius Howell in slot 16 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick27 Rnd1 Dani Dennis-Sutton
They bypassed pressing needs at cornerback, quarterback and other spots to take Dani Dennis-Sutton, an edge rusher that was not the priority.
Pick116 Rnd4 Boubacar Traore
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick 116 on Boubacar Traore with cornerback, quarterback and other spots unsolved.
Pick156 Rnd5 CJ Baxter
Nice patience on CJ Baxter, who had no business lasting to pick No. 156. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick178 Rnd5 CJ Daniels
CJ Daniels at the 178th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick179 Rnd5 Bryce Boettcher
By-the-book stuff, Bryce Boettcher at the 179th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick218 Rnd7 Princewill Umanmielen
A real head-scratcher, Princewill Umanmielen in pick 218 is miles ahead of his ranking. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick228 Rnd7 Roderick Kearney
A conviction pick on Roderick Kearney at slot 228 that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
