Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the Bears to a D.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Bears did exactly that with Adam Randall in the Round 7 slot. The math is unkind, and the D follows.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. It is not that Clark is a bad player; it is that the Bears had louder needs to answer first.

A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Hunter pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Christen Miller
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the defensive front, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick57 Rnd2 Lee Hunter
Lee Hunter in the 57th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick60 Rnd2 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at slot 60 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick115 Rnd4 J.C. Davis
J.C. Davis in No. 115 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick125 Rnd4 Bud Clark
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Bud Clark at safety with edge rusher and linebacker open.
Pick150 Rnd5 Domani Jackson
Domani Jackson in Round 5, Pick 12 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick173 Rnd5 Aamil Wagner
A reasonable price with a little left over, Aamil Wagner in slot 173. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick221 Rnd7 Dane Key
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Dane Key in the 221st overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick239 Rnd7 Luke Altmyer
No edge and no loss on Luke Altmyer in the 239th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick241 Rnd7 Adam Randall
A wild overpay on Adam Randall in Round 7, Pick 25, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick247 Rnd7 Lake McRee
They left a pile of value on the table to take Lake McRee this early at pick 247. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
