Best value of the weekend goes to the Packers for Jackson: B. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Packers were there to profit. Donovan Jackson, the No. 82 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick No. 109. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They will need Lane to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptive interior force at fair value.
Pick56
Rnd2
Darien Porter
Value said wait; Darien Porter in the 56th overall pick says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick87
Rnd3
Isaiah Bond
A slide stopped in Round 3, Pick 23, with Isaiah Bond worth more than the price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick109
Rnd4
Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at No. 109 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick124
Rnd4
Kevin Winston Jr.
They robbed the room for Kevin Winston Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick159
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
The board had cheaper options than Dont'e Thornton Jr. at pick No. 159, and it noticed. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick198
Rnd6
Cam Jackson
They reached a country mile for Cam Jackson at slot 198, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick204
Rnd6
Jack Kiser
A tidy little value on Jack Kiser in pick 204, a step better than break-even. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick237
Rnd7
Trevor Etienne
Trevor Etienne slid further than he should have, and pick 237 is lovely value for the running back. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick250
Rnd7
Jaylin Lane
Jaylin Lane in the 250th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
