Draft Grade — Bears
Overall

FutureD+
Quarterback settled, Williams in the fold, and a D- for the Bears. Somebody took the Bears to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. Put together, it is a D-.
Whatever Caleb Williams becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. They are betting Wright proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. With edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on DT-EDGE is the choice that costs them.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In No. 1 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In the 9th pick they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick36
Rnd2
Tyler Nubin
Tyler Nubin in pick 36 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick46
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
No drama and no debate, Jackson Powers-Johnson went about where he belonged in slot 46. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick75
Rnd3
Maason Smith
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending Round 3, Pick 11 on Maason Smith with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved.
Pick110
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
A quiet steal in pick No. 110: Blake Fisher for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
Pick127
Rnd4
Jaylen Wright
Jaylen Wright in the 127th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick141
Rnd5
Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson at the Round 5 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick146
Rnd5
Kamal Hadden
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kamal Hadden at No. 146. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
