Nobody dealt better than the Steelers this weekend: B. If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Steelers, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The Capehart pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
With quarterback, edge rusher and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on offensive lineman is the choice that costs them. The Jaylon Johnson pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
JC Latham
In slot 20 they get a cornerstone up front. Need was not the driver here.
Pick84
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Sedrick Van Pran adds an offensive lineman and leaves quarterback, edge rusher and other spots untouched.
Pick119
Rnd4
Johnny Dixon
A straight-up fair deal on Johnny Dixon at the 119th pick, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick120
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
A reach on Cedric Gray in pick No. 120; the board had better options right there. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick137
Rnd5
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick163
Rnd5
Josh Proctor
Josh Proctor in the 163rd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick198
Rnd6
Kingsley Eguakun
A premium they did not need to pay, Kingsley Eguakun a notch or two before his time. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick241
Rnd7
DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart at Round 7, Pick 21 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
